By three methods we may learn wisdom:
First, by reflection, which is noblest;
second, by imitation, which is easiest;
and third by experience, which is the bitterest.”

Feel Like It’s Time to Make a Change in Your Life, But Can’t Seem to Find a Way?
Psychotherapy is sometimes called a “talking treatment” because it uses talking, rather than medication. Because of this, psychotherapy has the benefit of giving clients someone to talk to. It can create a new way of looking at difficult problems, and help people move towards a solution.
Participants can gain a better understanding of themselves and their own goals and values, and can develop skills for improving relationships.
In order for psychotherapy to work, the person must be actively engaged and work during the session as well as between sessions, by practicing new skills, for example.
What Is Psychotherapy?
Help
Psychotherapy refers to a range of treatments that can help with mental health problems, and emotional challenges. Psychothereapy also addresses a variety of self defeating behaviours that can trigger mood and anxiety disorders. Those behaviors include self-criticism, difficulty letting things go, conflict avoidance, toxic relationships, resentment, difficulty making meaningful connections, procrastination, negative internal dialogue, difficulty moving forward after a break up, regret, self-sabotage, lacking personal boundaries and emotional intelligence.
Understanding
Psychotherapy aims to enable clients to understand the origins of their personal narrative. One’s reality is a function of the story or narrative that is internalized. This narrative is determined by your core beliefs. What are your assumptions about the world and relationships? How do you interact in it? What role do you play? Your personal narrative is largely derived by past experiences and your history. We will work collaboratively together to generate new narratives and promote autonomy.
Effective
Individuals who commit themselves to the process report improved mental health. Psychotherapy can be as effective as medication. It is goal-oriented, problem focused, and promotes self-awareness. It fosters emotional support as individuals identify and evaluate cognitive distortions. The course of therapy can last several months to years; individuals who are eager to change and willing to put in the effort often report positive results.
Beneficial
Psychotherapy can provide help with a range of problems, from depression and low self-esteem to addiction and family disputes. It can help a client identify their strengths and how they can best be used to achieve emotional, social, and spiritual goals.

Group Therapy
Purpose:
I offer a variety of counseling groups to address common issues for my clients. Groups are an active outreach that creates a positive emotional climate and encourages member collaboration as the group members provide support and validation to each other, while at the same time promoting autonomy for each client. The objective of the group is to create a warm environment that advocates freedom of expression. Specifically, groups will focus on expressing feelings, enhancing self-esteem, improving communication, and developing conflict resolution skills..
Benefits:
Members can expect to develop alternative coping strategies and a heightened awareness of cognitive thoughts, mindfulness, and spirituality. Other benefits include: indentifying maladaptive behaviors, identification and replacement of irrational thoughts and expectations, identifying negative self-talk and substituting with positive, healthy, and rational self-talk
Members:
Participation in group therapy is completely voluntary. Members will have the opportunity to work with others sharing common concerns. Groups have an average of 6-8 members and is professionally facilitated with a compassionate and supportive approach.
Process:
Group therapy is the process whereby members can honestly explore the dynamics of an illness, a loss,or past unresolved traumas by sharing feelings. Members are encouraged to discuss openly the factors that precipitated the onset of the issue, and factors that perpetuate or maintain an existing issue. Members are encouraged that all topics related to the specified group are open for discussion. Members will be revealing sensitive personal information therefore, we ask that all information shared in group be kept confidential. Members can expect active listening, unconditional positive regard, and warm acceptance.
Screening:
An initial orientation/intake appointment is required prior to joining all groups.
Child Therapy
Purpose:
To assist the child suffering from significant distress caused by exaggerated fears, ADHD, traumatic memories, loss of a parent or sibling, physical and/or sexual abuse, neglect, and parental divorce. I incorporate child friendly coping skills and advise parents regarding how best to support their child. I also assist the child with adjustment issues that may cause stagnation of developmental milestones such as relocation, remarriage, bullying, and starting school.
My Therapeutic Approach Includes:
- Family Therapy – To encourage emotional support to the child. Parental involvement and participation is an imperative component of every child’s treatment.
- Play Therapy – Young children lack the ability to analyze their problems. At this stage in a child’s life, their vocabulary is limited, so I may incorporate the use of art, clay, puppets, or play-acting to help them express their concerns symbolically, rather than by the use of words.
- Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy – Utilization of rewards as a motivator to replace unwanted and negative behaviors with more useful and constructive behaviors.
- Music Therapy – I often employ music to help reduce stress, calm the spirit, and ease muscle tension of children.
